Fall keeps hanging on. The trees still have most of their bright yellow leaves. It has been beautiful.

Last week we watched the snow move down the mountains. It reached all the way down to 3500 feet by mid week. On Friday, it had dropped to more like 2000 feet. It is disturbing that I can look at the mountains and determined the elevation of the snow line from anywhere in town. As I pointed out the different mountain peaks to a co-worker, I realized that I have spent a lot of time in the Chugach Mountains.

I tried unsuccessfully to find some more trout last week. We tried Campbell Point Lake on a rainy evening. Well, I tried while Kris walked a few laps around the lake. This lake was stocked with 24” char last November and they are rumored to be about 36” long now. I tried Taku Lake again on Saturday night, hoping that dusk would bring some feeding fish.

Saturday was a spectacular day. The sun was out and the skies were clear all the way to the Alaska Range. We had a casual morning and decided to kill some time between breakfast and the Ohio State football game by taking a bike ride. We headed up the green belt to International Airport Highway. We rode the trail along the road past our old apartment, past the airport and to the coastal trail. From there we rode south along the coast to Kincaid Park. We then took the trails along the roads back to the greenbelt and home. It was over 22 miles and almost all of it was on paved bike trails. The temperature never got out of the 40‘s, but we dressed appropriately to keep our ears and hands warm. My feet got a little cool.

I made a pork roast for dinner while Kris yelled at the TV.

On Sunday, the weather returned to rain and clouds. We hung around home a bit, but got out in the afternoon for a hike at Ruth Arcand Park, a municipal park that we had never visited before. We did a little shopping afterwards.
