A trip to Captain Cook State Park

The beach consists of a high bluff, rocks, sand, and lots of mud.

The mud goes on a long way.

Huge rocks stick out of the mud and water

Water cuts interesting patterns into the mud.

Layers of mud are exposed by the running waters of the Swanson River.

Birds, like a Yellowlegs and a Semipalmated Plover, hang out on the mud

Kris takes a break on the banks of the Swanson River...

after throwing rocks in the mud and making big splooshes.

Tracks in the sand show the recent path of a large fallen rock.

The rains caused mudslides

A little fog makes the landscape seem surreal

Back on shore, the leaves on the Devil's Club prepare to emerge

A spruce grouse hangs out in a spruce tree
