We had a good earthquake today. It was a 5.2 centered not too far north of Anchorage. I was in a meeting. It lasted long enough to start a conversation in the meeting. It wasn’t dramatic, just a gentle rocking.
The snow really piled up on the top of the mountain last week while the rain kept falling at the base. They were unable to open for the weekend. The avalanche danger was too high. One of the steeper faces slid and damaged one of the chairlift supports up high. The lower half of the mountain has lost most of its snow. Skiing is on hold. Maybe this weekend, but it will depend on the lift being fixed. The temperatures have dropped now. The snow is mostly gone in town but now we have icy sidewalks and parking lots.
We didn’t have an adventurous weekend. Saturday we rented a carpet cleaner. We have light colored carpets and Alaska is full of this grayish fine silt that tracks everywhere. The carpets look much cleaner, but it took a lot of effort.
In moving the furniture around, I got the idea that we have more room in our dining room than in our living room. Since we don’t really use the dining room or the fireplace, I thought it might make sense to reverse things. So Sunday I moved the furniture. We haven’t decided if we like it, but it isn’t bad. I will have to buy a ceiling light to replace the chandelier if we decide to leave it like this for awhile.
Kris went to a movie on Sunday afternoon. She wanted to see “Into the Wild”, the movie about a guy who died in the wilderness north of Denali. I didn’t go. I really didn’t have any desire to see another movie about someone who died in Alaska from stupidity.
We seem to be in a lazy pattern. It is dark a lot. We haven’t been able to get outside much. We have gone out to dinner 3 out of the last 4 nights. I have gained a couple pounds for the first time in several years. I need some activity.
