Flat Stanley Visits Alaska
November 16-18, 2007
Stanley arrived in Anchorage, Alaska on November 16. He may have had an adventure getting there. Sometimes the mail gets lost on the 4,000 mile journey from Atlanta.

Stanley stayed with Kris and Tim.

It was snowy during Stanley’s visit. The snow was deeper than Kris’ knees and would have been over Stanley’s head without some help.

Alaska is known for its animals. Stanley didn’t get to see many. The bears were asleep for winter. Stanley was glad. Bears are scary.

Stanley met a caribou

And a moose

The moose aren’t sleeping, but are hard to find in the deep snow. Tim took this picture a couple weeks before Stanley’s visit.

Stanley enjoyed riding in Tim’s orange truck.

Stanley saw Turnagain Arm

The tide changes the water level by almost 30 feet twice each day. Sometimes the tide flows so fast it makes a wave. This wave is called a bore tide.

Stanley went skiing at Alyeska Ski Resort.

He skied on black diamond trails, the most difficult ski trails.

One of them was called Horror Hill. It wasn‘t scary.

Stanley had to get back to Georgia so he didn‘t have time to try the other winter sports in Alaska like dog mushing

Snowmachining

or Ice Climbing

If Stanley returns in the summer, he could go fishing

Backpacking

Moutainbiking

Camping

Kayaking

Mountain climbing

Or Rafting

He could ride a train

Or boat

Stanley had fun in Alaska and hopes to return.
